Do not use Meridia if you are allergic to any of the ingredient in Meridia.
Meridia should not be used if you have eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, uncontrolled or severe high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, increased blood pressure in the lungs, or have had a stroke. Meridia should not be used if the patient has liver or kidney problems or is on dialysis for severe kidney problems. Do not use Meridia if you are taking a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) like Fluoxetine,or you are already using another appetite suppressant. Also one should not use Meridia with monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAO) inhibitor (eg. phenelzine) within the last fortnight.
Meridia should not be used if the woman is pregnant. When one is using Meridia an effective method of birth control should be used.
Enough research has not been done to see the effects of Meridia in children and adolescents.
The Physician Should Know
If the patient who is about to take Meridia is pregnant or planning a pregnancy or is a mother breast feeding an infant. If you are taking any prescription or non prescription medicine. Herbal medicines or dietary supplements. If you are about to take Meridia let the doctor know if you have any allergies to medicines, foods or other substances.
Before taking Meridia your doctor should know if you have heart disease, increased risk for bleeding narrow angle glaucoma or seizures. Some of the medications that may interact with Meridia are dihydroergotamine, imidazoles (e.g. itraconazole, ketoconazole), lithium, MAO inhibitors (eg phenelzine), sumatriptan, or tryptophan.
